Executive Producers Mario Lopez and Wilmer Valderrama bring their behind-the-scenes production chops to “The Golden Boys” and season two of “The Ricardo Laguna Project,” respectively. “The Golden Boys,” produced by 51 Minds, is a half hour show that tracks the legendary Oscar De La Hoya as he trains, promotes and mentors three up and coming fighters on the verge of the world stage. The half-hour freshman series “The Ricardo Laguna Project” returns for a second season of more wild and amusing antics from the Mexican-American BMX pro & his bicultural family in Las Vegas. Produced by RelativityREAL, season two will make its debut in fall 2012.

“The Chisme Club” shares witty comedic banter from infamous Latino personalities and stand ups who reveal their favorite and most absurd ‘pop culture’ news. Personalities include the Mob Wives Rene Graziano and Mayte Garcia, as well as “The Latin Divas of Comedy” Sandra Valls and Sara Contreras, “Broads of Broadway” comedian Cristina Galston, Showtime Comedy Special headliner Joey Medina, and comedian Eric Nieves, among others.

Three new realities star acculturated Hispanic Millennials. Under the production of 51 Minds, “Latino Boot Camp” will connect young Latinos to their roots through an eye-opening encounter with their ancestors in Latin America, and in the female-driven competition “From Chongas to Reinas” rough Latinas are transformed into well-mannered queens, with plenty of cattiness and drama in between. The new comedic series “Culture Swap,” produced by RelativityREALL, stars two young adults (one Latino) with very different cultural backgrounds that switch lives for a week of exposure to another world.

After achieving ultimate stardom in Latin America with a booming career in music, film and television, social media magnet Dulce Maria has her eyes set on conquering the US. “The Dulce Maria Show” follows the triple-threat’s departure from her beloved family and fans, to new-found independence, a new language and a new culture in Hollywood. Under the production of Ennovva, the new show is set to premier fall 2012.
The new suspense thriller novela “Ultimo Ano” is set in the world of adolescence, and driven by a conniving foreign exchange student who tries to deceive and manipulate the lives of his new host family and friends. The co-production with MTV Latin America introduces a first-ever initiative uniting network writers and researchers from Population Media Center (PMC) to produce entertainment-education content, where characters will be developed to evolve into role models for the audience, encouraging the adoption of healthier behaviors to benefit individuals and their societies. Series is produced by Argos Productions and set for spring 2013.

DID LATINOS GET POLITICAL ON THE RED CARPET AT THE LATIN BILLBOARD AWARDS: DON OMAR WAS THE BIG WINNER WATCH HIS VIDEO AND FIND OUT WHY

In the midst of the glitz and glamour of the Billboard Latin Music Awards in Miami, Fox News Latino asked deep questions while celebrities sashayed across the red carpet. While most of the media was interested in ‘what are you wearing?’ And ‘how do you feel tonight?’ We struck a different chord with the celebrities. We asked: ‘What are your views about the role of Latinos in this year’s election?’ And they loved it! We were praised for elevating this important matter and the artists were quick to open their heart and share their perspectives.

Emilio Estefan was quick to mention his participation in a call with the White House on Friday, and Wilmer Valderrama, who is actively involved with the organization Voto Latino, got extremely passionate about the growth trends of our community and his dissatisfaction with the Arizona law.

R&B recording artist, songwriter and record producer, Akon talked about the importance of unity and the power of minorities sticking together to make a difference and let their voices be heard.

La diva de la banda, Jenni Rivera, was equally passionate to motivate Latinos to get involved.

You may wonder, why did we get political on the red carpet? Because our voice, our community and our influence is paced to make a critical difference on the race to the White House. A cover on TIME Magazine, controversies over the Arizona Law, a potential vice presidential candidate,  Marco Rubio and many more, are at the core of our conversations. Even for celebrities who are doing voter drivers and attending meetings at the White House.

The big winner at the Latin Billboards was Don Omar, watch his video and see why Don Omar took the most awards that night.

Latinos represent a potential 21.7 million eligible voters, according to the Pew Hispanic Center; however of those eligible in 2010 only 6.6 million actually headed to the polls; a number that can mark a historic difference in this year’s election. This disconcerting 30 percent or 15 million gap has been recognized by many organizations like Voto Latino; which is touring with the Mexican band Maná as part of their ‘Drama Luz’ tour; and other celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Jon Secada and Shakira have joined various functions at the White House in efforts to amplify and raise issues of our community.

WILMER VALDERRAMA SPEAKS OUT AGAINST SB 1070 AT ARIZONA STATE UNIVERSITY

Wilmer Valderrama, the actor best known for the television shows “Awake” and “That 70s Show“, spoke to a crowded room at Arizona State University on Tuesday in the midst of the state’s battle with the Supreme Court over SB 1070. Speaking about the importance of the Latino vote in this upcoming election, Valderrama expressed a pro-immigration stance and called for increased Latino involvement in politics.

“The only way the system can work is if we all get involved,” Valderrama said. “Don’t expect politicians to figure it out for you.”

The event was sponsored by the ‘Voto Latino’ campaign, an effort aimed at increasing the presence of young Latino voters in the next election. Victor Corral, a volunteer with the organization, helped collect new voter registration forms and was excited to hear from the actor. “The Latino voice needs to be heard,” Corral said. “He makes a big difference in doing that.”

“If we don’t tell our friends to vote, who will?” he said.

Born in Miami, Valderrama moved back and forth between Venezuela and the United States, during his youth. Coming from an immigrant background himself, he expressed strong feelings against SB1070, a controversial immigration law in Arizona. Valderrama wants more young people and young Latinos to engage in the voting process. On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments on it.

“It’s sad,” he said. “Immigration is the reason we have a country in the first place.”

Valderrama holds the belief that both legal and unauthorized immigrants contribute a lot to the United States economy; citing boosts in unclaimed tax revenue and labor for hard-to-fill jobs. He wants people to stop having what he refers to as a ‘negative mental image’ when they hear the word ‘immigration’.

WILMER VALDERRAMA IN NEW THRILLER ‘AWAKE’

THE HISPANIC BLOG IS THE LATEST HISPANIC NEWS BY JESSICA MARIE GUTIERREZ

Best known as his character Fez on “That 70’s Show,” Wilmer Valderrama will take on a very different role this season as Detective Vega, on NBC’S new thriller “Awake.”

The thriller premiered Thursday, March 1st.

“I’ve never played a cop before,” the actor told FOX News Latino. “I do a lot of stunts on the show and there is a lot of action that requires me to be very physical.”

“Awake” follows detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs) who finds himself awake in two separate realities: one where his teen son, Rex (Dylan Minnette, “Saving Grace,”) died in a car crash and his wife, Hannah (Laura Allen, “Terriers”) survived, and another where Hannah has perished, leaving Michael and Rex to pick up the pieces. In order to keep both of his loved ones alive, Michael begins living in two dueling realities.

In the one-hour network drama, the Venezuelan actor plays two roles.

“In one reality I’m his partner as Detective Vega,” Valderrama said. “In the other world I play an LAPD officer.”

Valderrama said “to be able to play dual realities and have a character that’s alive in two different worlds,” has “proven to be one of the most fun and challenging characters I’ve played  in my career.”

The actor continued, “in every episode we solve two cases that intertwine with both realities,” “watching the episodes reminds of the feeling that I got when I first saw the X-Files.”

From playing a foreign exchange student in “That 70’s Show” to voicing an animated character in “Handy Manny” and hosting “Yo Momma” on MTV, Valderrama’s versatility cannot be denied.

For Valderrama shared with FOX News Latino his secret for surviving the movie-making industry.

“I came to America to work, I didn’t come to ask anybody for anything,” Valderrama said. “I came here to earn it.”

“I’ve been given an opportunity to go out there and  prove that I definitely belong in this industry,” he added.

“I’ve been around it for many years [and] as long as  I’m having a good time with it then people will buy it.”

Aside from acting, Valderrama has also created his own production company, WV Enterprises, whose main mission is to produce programming for both cable and network television.

His most recent producing project will premiere on MTV3 in March. The show, called the Ricardo Laguna project, focuses around a Mexican BMX biker who comes to the States in search of the American Dream.

Valderrama keeps in constant contact with his fan base through his twitter handle @WillyVille.

“I’m flattered that people follow me on twitter,” said Valderrama. “It’s important to keep a direct line with your fans.”

TR3S PRESENTS THE RICARDO LAGUNA PROJECT

THE HISPANIC BLOG IS THE LATEST HISPANIC NEWS BY JESSICA MARIE GUTIERREZ

Tr3s presents the bilingual/bicultural life of Mexican-American BMX pro &

Wilmer Valderrama & RelativityREAL Executive Produce new docu-series.

Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas, the bilingual/bicultural entertainment destination for Latinos in the US, announces the premier of the new docu-series The Ricardo Laguna Project under Executive Producers Wilmer Valderrama and RelativityREAL. The new series takes a look inside the outrageously amusing life of bilingual/bicultural BMX star Ricardo Laguna as he attempts to break 3 world records and start his own family business – all while balancing his close knit Latin family and the enticing social scene in Las Vegas. Tr3s will produce eight 30-minute episodes of The Ricardo Laguna Project, which premiers every Wednesday at 9pm (ET), starting March 14th, 2012.

“Ricardo Laguna is a relatable young guy who’s experiencing the same bicultural realities of our audience – striving to stand out, embracing his Hispanic and American ethnicity, conquering new opportunities and keeping his family unit strong,” said Charlie Singer, SVP of Creative & Content for Tr3s. “He is unbelievably passionate about life and will be an incredible role model for our audience.”

“I have a passion for riding and being a part of the community – whether I’m helping kids or building huge dirt jumps at events – and of course I have a lot of fun along the way as it is Vegas, but I’m trying to do it all while building my brand AND in a way that makes my parents proud,” BMX champ Ricardo Laguna. “There aren’t really any Hispanic riders in BMX that give back so I’m hoping I can be a role model to some of the kids out there. All in a day’s work and I can’t wait for the world to see it!”

“When I met Ricardo, I immediately discovered a disarming, charming and inspiring young man with a vision larger than even his whole family expected. I related to him on so many levels. Ricardo and his family remind me and all of us the reason why we move away from our countries and come to America to embark in the search of the American dream,” commented Valderrama.

Moving from La Paz, Mexico to the states at the age of 13 was a struggle but looking back Ricardo merits his familia for his extraordinary bilingual/bicultural experience. Even after turning pro at 21, Ricardo chose to continue living with his parents. Now at 29, he’s left the nest but didn’t stray too far from home or dinner time with family. Ricardo has been riding for more than a decade and holds multiple titles including the Best Latin-American Dirt Jumper in 2004. Since then, the BMX renaissance man has joined the X Games, competed nationwide and mentored youth across the country – all while keeping a steady (and responsible) presence in the Las Vegas social scene.

The Ricardo Laguna Project is produced by RelativityREAL and Myra Santiago, Director of Production for Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas. Wilmer Valderrama and RelativityREAL’s Tom Forman, Brad Bishop and David Brown serve as Executive Producers.
