GOV PERRY LURED APPLE TO TEXAS AND CREATES MORE THAN 3,600 JOBS

Governor Perry Sweetened the Deal for Apple and for the Texas Economy

Gov. Rick Perry today announced that Apple will expand its presence in Texas with a $304 million investment in a new campus in Austin that will create more than 3,600 new jobs. The new campus will more than double the size of Apple’s workforce in Texas over the next decade, supporting the company’s growing operations in the Americas with expanded customer support, sales and accounting functions for the region. In exchange for Apple’s commitment to create these new jobs in Texas, the state has offered Apple an investment of $21 million over ten years through the Texas Enterprise Fund (TEF).

“Apple is known for its bold innovation and game-changing designs, and the expansion of their Austin facility adds to the growing list of visionary high-tech companies that have found that Texas’ economic climate is a perfect fit for their future, thanks to our low taxes, reasonable and predictable regulations, fair legal system and skilled workforce” Gov. Perry said. “Investments like this further Texas’ potential to become the nation’s next high-tech hub.”

The project is supported by an investment from the TEF, which offers companies incentives to invest in Texas. When completed, it will be one of the largest job creation projects in TEF history, and one of the largest capital investments by a TEF recipient. The agreement is contingent upon the finalization of contracts and a local incentive agreement with the City of Austin and Travis County.

The Legislature created the TEF in 2003 and re-appropriated funding in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2011 to help ensure the growth of Texas businesses and create more jobs throughout the state. TEF projects must be approved by the governor, lieutenant governor and speaker of the House. The fund has since become one of the state’s most competitive tools to recruit and bolster business. To date, the TEF has invested more than $443.4 million and closed the deal on projects generating more than 62,000 new jobs and more than $15.4 billion in capital investment in the state.

Cine Mexico dominates Hispanic audiences in U.S.

Mexican-themed entertainment seems to have caught fire for U.S. Hispanic TV viewers. Cine Mexicano has entered 2012 ranked the No. 1 Hispanic channel on AT&T U-verse, according to the Rentrak household TV ratings, coming in ahead of ESPN DEPORTES.

“Cine Mexicano has consistently ranked among the top five Hispanic networks for the last 12 months according to Rentrak,” said Albert Estrada, SVP of marketing and business development at Olympusat, which controls a number of owned and operated Hispanic networks: Gran Cine, LaTele Novela, !Sorpresa! and CubaPlay in addition to Specialty Networks FUNimation Channel, Parables and Untamed Sports.. “This ranking underscores the fact that there is a strong market for highly targeted programming for the U.S. Hispanic market.”

Cine Mexicano, as its name suggests, offers original productions and contemporary Mexican films for Hispanics living in the U.S., focusing in on that country’s unique set of cultural themes. The Spanish-language channel features commercial-free offerings that include romance, dramas, comedy, rancheras, action and thrillers.

“By staying true to our core demographic and understanding its affection for Mexican-themed entertainment, Cine Mexicano has become very popular among Hispanics subscribing to multi-channel video services,” Estrada said.

COMCAST Teams Up with El Rey Network

El Rey: Proposed by legendary Hollywood director Robert Rodriguez and FactoryMade Ventures executives John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa, this network is designed to be an action-packed, general entertainment network in English for Latino and general audiences that includes a mix of reality, scripted and animated series, movies, documentaries, news, music, comedy, and sports programming. The El Rey network will include programming that features Hispanic producers, celebrities and public figures. The network has entered into an agreement to launch by January 2014.

SNOOKI AND JIONNI LAVALLE CONFIRM PREGNANCY AND ENGAGEMENT

Snooki & Jionni LaValle Confirm Pregnancy & Engagement

The “Jersey Shore” can officially add another “babino” to their crew.

US Weekly has confirmed exclusively that Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi is 15 weeks pregnant and engaged to boyfriend of a year and a half Jionni LaValle.

In the cover story for the magazine, both Polizzi and LaValle addressed the speculation that has been surrounding the rumors and the two’s abilities as parents.

“I have different priorities now,” the famous party girl said. “I don’t care what anybody else thinks. As long as I know I’m ready and he’s ready.”

Her fiancé LaValle added, “We are not going to screw this up.”

The Chilean mom to be revealed that she discovered she was pregnant in the beginning of January.

The “Jersey Shore” star told the mag, “‘S–t, I’ve been drinking!’ I was worried. It was New Year’s Eve and we were in Vegas, so I did go crazy.”

Earlier this week, Polizzi was spotted wearing a giant diamond on her ring finger which only fueled the pregnancy rumors.

Until today, Snooki had kept mum and had not confirmed nor denied the engagement.

While Snooki plans her wedding, she is also continuing to shoot her “Jersey Shore” spin-off with BFF Jenni “JWOWW” Farley.

More Hispanics in College Will Add to Consumer Spending Growth

Higher Education Leads to Higher Income

A study by the Pew Hispanic Center shows that there was a 24% increase in Hispanic college enrollment between 2009 and 2010. This exceeds the population increase among the Hispanic 18-24 demographic (7%) over the same period, which indicates a trend in strides in educational awareness among the Hispanic community.

Growing Hispanic Education Level

Record High School Completion & College Enrollment

Hispanic high school completion reached a record 73% in 2010, up 3% from the year prior. Additionally, strides to move these kids from high school to college have paid off: 44% of those Hispanic students completing high school are going on to college, up from 39% in 2009.

What This Means for Marketers

With college graduates on average earning 1.5 times more than those with only a high school degree, these trends put the Hispanic youth catching up with their non Hispanic counterparts not only in terms of educational attainment but also in terms of income level. US Hispanic consumer spending is on track to reach $1.4 trillion by 2014, and with continuing increases in income levels among these young Latinos, real levels could outpace these projections. Marketers should be looking to include Hispanic marketing strategies into their annual plans in order to capture this growing population’s loyalty and purchases.
